Earlier this month at Mom 2.0 in Atlanta I hosted a series of round tables on Travel blogging/writing.  All of the attendees who popped in were fascinating. It’s always so much fun to chat with other travelers and this was no exception.

At one point two of the moms at my table were planning trips that leave within a few weeks!

Mom 2 Summit 2014 Atlanta

It’s weird, but every time I hear about a family about to set off on a long term travel adventure, or a family who has started the planning for one, I get so excited.

And chances are high that because of that excitement I end up sharing  how much the support of other families on social media helped us during our trip. Inevitably I point them to Talon Windwalker (@1dad1kid) and suggest they join the Facebook group he manages of long term travelers with kids.

I loved everything about our trip. Everything. And if I had a wish from it, it’s that more people could have that experience and understand, how life changing it is.

The next best thing? Being able to follow along.

There are families larger and smaller than mine. There are families going shorter distances and longer ones. Traveling families are out there and whether you’re looking to be one or simply want to watch them go, these two women from Mom 2.0. offer up a great opportunity to watch from the beginning.

Amy Carney is married to an ex NHL-er and has triplet boys and a teen daughter. The family is picking up stakes (Dad had to take a leave from his current job with the Chicago Blackhawks!) and hitting the road in an RV with a desire to see all 50 States. Follow them at WearetheCarneys.com

Samantha Nelson and her family (husband and kids aged 4, 5 & 19)  have been making big changes for a while now. Sam left a “good job” a while ago, is following her passion fiercely and now the family (minus the 19-year old who is off to college) is about to pack up their stuff and travel as far and wide as they can.  I love how she describes taking the leap on her blog.

imageThere were so many other travellers at that roundtable, and at the conference in general, who stopped me and shared their big travel dreams. It was inspiring and energizing and I enjoyed every one of those discussions.

Big thanks to the Mom 2.0 crowd for having me.

I hope the stories of these women help others who are debating making the leap.  I know it very quickly reminded me of why I need to get out there again.
