Tell me if this sounds familiar.

You’ve committed to a fitness routine. 5… no, 4…well, ok, 3… times a week you’re making it to the gym and working up enough of a sweat to avoid the stink-eye of the woman who runs the gym. You’re feeling better and wondering why you don’t do this more often.

Then it happens.

Something comes up and whether it’s for work or pleasure you find yourself heading off to another city, country or continent. No more gym mornings, no more runs in your familiar neighbourhood. Instead you find yourself facing buffet tables, drool-worthy restaurants and incredible desserts as far as the eye can see.

Or maybe youre one of those travelers who, with best intentions, pack your sneakers for every trip…and then don’t unpack them until you’re back home.

I feel your pain.

There are many perks to the travel lifestyle I live and good food is one of them.

So what’s a travel lover to do?

Recently, I popped in on an event hosted by Viva Best Buy featuring former pro football player Tommy Europe. Tommy, the host of shows like “The Last 10 pounds Bootcamp” and “Bulging Brides,” (and a Toronto alum!) led a boot camp class with some brave souls.

I was not one of them.

But while the ladies sweated, grunted and groaned I listened in! Along with the leg-shaking workout, Tommy offered up some words of wisdom on how to fit fitness into our busy lives. Among my favourite Tommy-isms:

“Better to do six good reps than 20 bad ones.”
“You have to eat to gain weight and you have to eat to lose weight.”

See why I like this guy?

Also on hand were some of  the fitness products that Viva Best Buy has on offer in their online store. There were a few that could help to keep you motivated on the road including:

·         Everlast Thigh Toner – $14.99 – Small enough to fit in your luggage this 80’s flashback offers an option for resistance training and is also great for working out your arms and chest.
·         Runtastic Digital Sports Watch with GPS – $199.98 – Now your watch can tell you when to workout.  The dual time display with alarm wakes you for an early morning run, and the GPS navigation sets up your route while the integrated electronic compass keeps you on course. Measure your heart rate at the start, middle and end of your run and store your data to see how you improve.
·         Everlast 2 lb. Weighted Jump Rope – $19.99 –  It’s easy to pack and provides strength training and cardio in one workout. The two  1lb iron weight rods in the handles are removable allowing you to add or take away extra resistance.

And if you’d rather travel even lighter, Tommy says you can get a workout anywhere without carrying a thing AND with the kids in tow. He shares his travel tips for Globetrotting Mama readers here:
