Get on board a cruise this year. Globetrotting Mama shares top cruises for families

It’s “Wave Season,” a time when cruise ships might offer some of their best deals of the year. Last week we shared tips for choosing the right cruise, made just for you and your travel group. This week we wanted to take a closer look at what some of the more popular cruise lines are offering families, so that we can zero in on what might keep little ones busy and entertained, and parents happy and relaxed. Here’s a look at four picks bound to keep the whole family happy.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean came out number one in our search for a mix of kid and adult-friendly activities. Kids will enjoy The DreamWorks Experience* where they can visit with their favourite characters, including Shrek. A character meal with characters from Madagascar or an afternoon spent catching up on the DreamWorks library of offerings is time well spent. Adults will love the opportunity to grab a date night, while the kids are entertained through the on-board kid’s club.

Disney Cruise Line

You only have to have met one person who has taken a Disney cruise to get what all the excitement is about. With sailings that include a wide variety of destinations (including Castaway Cay – a Disney private island!) and on-board character experiences, shows and parties, kids and kids-at-heart will get their fill. There are also on-board water slides and aqua play areas that keep everyone entertained. The age-appropriate kids’ club offerings mean that kids are just as entertained as their parents. And there’s a great mix of adults-only activities and family time options to keep everyone happy.

Un-cruise Adventures

Un-cruise Adventures offers an unconventional cruise experience with small-ship travel to a selection of exotic locations. You can sail to the Galapagos Islands for wildlife experiences or the Hawaiian Islands to get closer to nature. The smaller ship offers a more intimate experience and means you can go into smaller channels – perfect for adventure-seeking families.

Carnival

Carnival offers the big-ship experience that many families crave. On-board family friendly experiences include a spectacular water park. Seuss at Sea is probably it’s most appealing offering for kids; enjoy onboard character experiences, storytime, arts and crafts and a character breakfast. Carnival also offers Camp Carnival for an exclusive kid experience.
