About Us

“We aren’t rich. We couldn’t afford to do this.
We couldn’t afford not to. Neither can you.”

Meet The Family

Before June 2011 our days consisted of making school lunches and working and going to school and wondering what to make for dinner and driving from karate practice to swimming practice to soccer practice, before collapsing in bed.

And in the seconds in between we wondered if there was more to life.

We dreamed of seeing the world with our kids. We imagined having more time to do nothing (and everything) together. We hoped that one day we’d make it happen. And then one day we decided to do it.

GlobetrottingMama.com tells that story and the incredible life of travel that has come out of taking that one big, bold move. It’s about travel and family and parenting and the planet, and we are hoping that our story helps to inspire you to live your best life.

“12 months. 6 continents. 29 countries.
4 lives forever changed.”

Who We Are

Heather Greenwood Davis

Freelance Writer • On-Air Personality • Keynote Speaker

Heather Greenwood Davis is the first (and only) Black woman to have a Travel Column in both Canadian National Newspapers. She is a Contributing Writer and on-air storyteller for National Geographic and a Feature Writer with The Globe and Mail. Her written work appears regularly in a host of national and international publications. On television stations across North America, she shares parenting, lifestyle and travel advice. She is the resident travel expert on The Social – a national daily lifestyle show – and co-host of Get, Set, Go! on CHCH. Heather believes in travel as a change agent, and has shared insights as a speaker in university classrooms, at conferences and at trade gatherings hosted by TravMedia, US Travel Association, Destination Canada, SATW and others.

In 2011, she packed up her young family and hit the road. Over the course of one year they travelled non-stop to 29 countries on six continents. On their return they were named National Geographic Traveler’s “Travelers of the Year.” Since then, Heather has shared her story and #noregrets approach to life in spaces ranging from O Magazine to NPR. She continues to share the lessons learned through a lifetime of travel experiences as the voice behind GlobetrottingMama.com – an international, family travel blog that features the adventures she takes with (and without) her husband Ish and their two sons, Ethan and Cameron.

Let’s tell better stories together.

Ish Davis

He’s the husband and father in this family mix. A municipal health worker by day with a passion for family and travel. His interests include history, anthropology, sports and exploring new places. He has social media networks but you’re more likely to find him offline, in brightly coloured jackets and whimsical socks, chatting with people he barely knows and turning them into lifelong friends.

Ethan Davis

This former picky eater has grown into a pun-loving foodie with a passion for health sciences. Currently attending university away from home, he doesn’t let the distance stop him from joining in on the family fun whenever he gets the chance. He’s our dessert-ordering leader and his heart of gold and joyful laugh makes any day better.

Cameron Davis

He’s the youngest member of our travelling family and our resident daredevil. If you can climb it, crawl under it, jump off it or slam into it, Cameron is up for it. He’s an activist and entrepreneur with a killer smile and the kind of charm that will convince you that you want to jump off things too. He’s using his superpowers for good in the fight for equity for all and has every intention of leading the country at the highest level one day.
