I find travel inspires me to see the world and my life in new ways. It is one of the most powerful aspects of experiencing new lands and cultures and one of the best reasons I have for encouraging others to get out and see the world.
Our world trip was about experiencing and sharing new sights and sounds as a family. And my talk recently in New York was about sharing how profound an experience travel can be.
Whenvever I need to feel re-inspired about why I travel I find a good quote can do the trick. A few travel quotes that resonate with me:
“We travel not to escape life but for life not to escape us” – Anonymous
“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” – André Gide
“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” – Saint Augustine
“Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.” – Matsuo Basho
“A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing and coercion are fruitless. We find that after years of struggle that we do not take a trip, a trip takes us.” – John Steinbeck
“Not all those who wander are lost.”- J.R.R Tolkein
“A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.” – Lao Tzu
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”- Marcel Proust
“I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” – Mark Twain
“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller

A travel quote by James Michener, author of ‘The Drifters’, a book that inspired me to travel:
If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home.
